MARGO at Devoxx Morocco: Optimizing Java memory with Project Lilliput and JEP 519

In a few weeks, the Java ecosystem will gather for Devoxx Morocco 2026. On this occasion, Meryem Arroussi and Achraf Hasbi, experts within our Software Engineering Practice, will represent MARGO during this Learning Expedition.

MARGO at Devoxx Morocco: the largest developer conference in the MEA region

Every year, Devoxx Morocco establishes itself as the benchmark event dedicated to software development. Indeed, over two thousand experts gather there to share their feedback.

Furthermore, this edition addresses major topics such as JVM performance and Java memory optimization. Thus, technical rigor remains at the heart of discussions to design tomorrow’s architectures.

MARGO’s expertise on the international stage

Maintaining technical excellence requires being at the heart of decision-making spaces. That is why MARGO positions its talent at the most selective international conferences. Furthermore, our Learning Expeditions allow us to anticipate tomorrow’s standards. Thus, our engineers directly reinvest this added value into our projects.

Within this dynamic, Meryem Arroussi and Achraf Hasbi will host a technical session. Their talk will focus on Project Lilliput and JEP 519. Indeed, a simple JVM parameter (-XX:+UseCompactObjectHeaders) allows for shrinking object headers. Thus, you can save up to 50% of object memory under Java 25. To do this, our speakers will explore the HotSpot JVM using the JOL tool. Furthermore, they will dissect memory allocation between Mark Word, Klass Word, and Compressed OOPs. Finally, they will demonstrate the concrete impact of this Java memory optimization on CPU performance.

Coming soon: the full feedback on this page

This immersion at Devoxx Morocco promises to be particularly intense for our experts. Therefore, check back on this page right after the event!

Indeed, Meryem and Achraf will publish their full feedback here:

  • Key trends on JVM performance and the Java 25 ecosystem,
  • Their selection of the best technical talks at Devoxx Morocco,
  • A behind-the-scenes look and summary of their presentation on Java memory optimization.

Will MARGO be present at Devoxx Morocco 2026?

Yes, MARGO is officially participating in Devoxx Morocco 2026 as part of a Learning Expedition. On this occasion, our experts will host a technical talk dedicated to Java performance and memory optimization.

Who are the MARGO speakers at Devoxx Morocco?

Meryem Arroussi (Software Engineer) and Achraf Hasbi (Practice Leader and Java Expert) will represent MARGO. Furthermore, they will host a talk focused on Project Lilliput and JEP 519.

What is the topic of MARGO’s talk at Devoxx Morocco?

The presentation covers Java memory optimization thanks to Project Lilliput and JEP 519. Indeed, our speakers will explain how the -XX:+UseCompactObjectHeaders option reduces the heap by 50% under Java 25.

What is Project Lilliput (JEP 519) in Java?

Project Lilliput reduces the size of object headers in the HotSpot JVM. By moving from 12 or 16 bytes to only 8 bytes, this Java memory optimization greatly improves heap density.

Where can I find MARGO’s feedback on Devoxx Morocco?

The full feedback will be published directly on this page after the event. You will discover our technical summary, our selection of the best talks, and major trends in Java 25.
